Here’s a glimpse at the schedule:
Under the direction of Victor Valenzuela, the Pima Concert Band will present a short but diverse program. “Rippling Watercolors” is a beautifully written piece by Brian Balmages that will open your imagination. “Keeper’s of the House” by Conni Ellisor is a two-movement work that harks back to the sounds of the Prairie. And finally “National Emblem March” is one of the first non-Sousa marches the Band has played under Mr. Valenzuela’s tenure. It should be tons of fun!
Directed by Anne Grimes, D.M.A., Pima Orchestra invites you to experience an inspiring performance featuring a blend of beloved orchestral classics, lively musical theater selections, and dynamic arrangements showcasing the ensemble’s talent.
Under the direction of Jonathan Ng, D.M.A., Pima Chorale & College Singers will perform “Close now thine eyes” (Gawthrop). The select mixed-voice a cappella ensemble College Singers will present three 20th-century part-songs – “Over the wave” (Chilcott), “Blow, blow, thou wind” (Rutter). For the final section of the concert the Chorale & College Singers perform “Sing gently” (Whitacre), “Danny boy” (Hayes) and “Music in the air” (Murphy).
Led by Michael Lich, Pima Guitar Ensemble will perform selected dances from Terpsichore by Michael Praetorius, as well as movements from String Quartet No.3-Mishima by Philip Glass. The program will also include compositions by Sergei Prokofiev and Goran Ivanovic. Please join us for this riveting blend of guitar music.
Directed by Scott Black, the Pima Jazz Student Run Combo will transport audiences to the golden age of big band jazz, performing classics by well-known composers.
Led by Salvador Gallegos, Pima Mariachi Ensemble, Mariachi Azteca de Pima College, will perform traditional and contemporary mariachi compositions representative of the folkloric Mexican music art form.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the talent and diversity of the Pima Community College Music students. Join us for an enjoyable afternoon of music.
