Matthias Düwel

Born in Berlin, Germany, Matthias Düwel received his MFA from the Universität der Künste Berlin in 1983. The following year, he was awarded a German Academic Exchange Service artist fellowship to live in NYC, where he was also made artist-in-residence at the NYU Deutsches Haus and given a studio fellowship to the NY Studio School.

In 1985, Düwel was awarded a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. He went on to exhibit his drawings and paintings in numerous solo shows in NYC, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Paris to positive reviews. Today his work can be found in notable museums and private collections.After 20 years of living in NYC and 6 years of teaching at Parsons School of Design, Düwel moved to Arizona. In 2005, he joined the faculty of PCC’s Northwest Campus. Today, in addition to pursuing a full-time visual art practice, Düwel also makes electronic music.
